Good morning, friends! Have a blessed and beautiful – and hopefully, restful – Saturday!
Well, I started a blog post this morning and saved it, but it has disappeared so I’m starting over. 🙂
Hope you all had a great week! HOT. That’s how this week has been. And that’s an epic understatement but it’s all I’ve got. Like…seriously HOT. Picking peas in the early morning before it gets really hot (no such thing as cool right now, but we compare “hot” to “really hot” around here) makes you hot. But fresh peas with cornbread were so worth it.
We bought a bushel of Silver Queen corn (my favorite) and I put up ten quarts of cream corn in the freezer. I just shucked my second bushel and will be putting that up shortly. Of course, we also had fresh corn for dinner the other night along with those peas and our first fried green tomatoes and fried squash of the summer. Hubby brought home a beauty of a watermelon while ago. I can wait to take a bite of that sweet summertime treat!
I have my brother’s three kiddos this weekend (ages 7, 5, and 2) so today has not been a usual Saturday for me. Right now we are “resting” and I’m having a cup of coffee and hoping to finish this post! We’ve been to the library and the playground, watched the Disney Channel and “The Little Mermaid” (the second, not the first). We’ve eaten, snacked, and eaten some more. 🙂
Thankfully, dinner is in the crock pot (French dip sandwiches are on the menu tonight) so that’s a plus. I don’t know how people live without crock pots. I really don’t. Doesn’t heat the kitchen up (since we’ve already established that it’s HOT here). Everything goes in the pot in the morning and by some miracle of electrical appliance science, dinner is ready just in time.
I have completely forgotten what I wrote this morning so I don’t know if this covers it or not. Maybe it does. If not, maybe it will come to me. Between the heat, three kids (and sorry!) PMS, my brain is barely functional right now. 🙂
Y’all enjoy your weekend! Stay cool and hydrated! I’m dreaming about that cool watermelon.
56 degrees and a little rainy this morning for our 5K. Glad I didn’t pick today for my first half! Admire those who are running it, though.
I think that I’ll run, come home, take a hot shower, and get back in my pajamas and drink coffee. Put some soup on in the crock pot. And a nap will definitely be in order!
Y’all have a great Saturday!
Happy, happy Saturday!
First: How many of you still use one of these fresh air clothes dryers?
Happy, happy, happy! Can you feel my excitement? I got the first plants into my garden today and I’m practically giddy! (Possibly weird…) Anyway, those dirt-filled beds from yesterday are now filled with baby plants that will be beautiful – and hopefully bountiful – fresh veggies for our family to enjoy in a couple of months. What did I plant? I’m so glad you asked. 🙂
Here’s what went in the garden today:
Lettuces, Swiss chard, broccoli, and onions (around the edges)
Parsley, dill, rosemary, oregano, Brussels sprouts, and green peas (not seen, of course)
Yukon gold potatoes (hiding at the moment) and kale
Cabbage and rutabagas (Mmmm, roasted rutabagas are the bomb!)
Red potatoes (I think you can tell where they are), broccoli, and some more onions around the edges
New gloves now dirty…
I think it’s time for coffee! Yes, indeed. So I’m going to take my book and my coffee, got sit in my swing and enjoy a little rest and quiet. Have a great afternoon and a blessed Sunday!
I hope you’ve had a great Saturday! It’s been beautiful here today, so we did some prep work in the garden then sat in the swing and admired our work. And I had some coffee and watched the birds play. 🙂
I got a nice run in before dinner. Broccoli and cheese soup and chili – gotta have options! – and some hot buttery cornbread for dinner…yum!
Now for a hot bath and and early bedtime. 6:00 a.m. comes early every Sunday!
Have a great night!
Happy Saturday, y’all!
Sorry I didn’t post yesterday! When I finally had time to do it, I was tired and went to bed. 🙂 We (the hubby and I) spent yesterday and today cleaning and rearranging furniture. His most favorite things to do. Ha! So the living room has been completely turned around and the television is in its new place which makes me happy. I got a new mop that I like, which makes me happy. I guess I should be giddy by now. Ha!
We will have a weekly challenge next week that involves cleaning and decluttering a room in your house. If you followed Simplify 2013, this will be a repeat – though updated. If you’re like me, it’s time to hit that room again anyway. I haven’t decided which room yet, so if you have a preference, leave me a comment. We’ll get to all of them, but we have to start somewhere. 🙂
I hope you have a blessed Sunday tomorrow! Be sure to get yourself a nap. I know I will!
Good Saturday morning!
If you’re up and at ’em already, I hope you’re having a good start to your day! I’ve had my coffee and my quiet time, so I’m about to fix myself a little breakfast. 🙂
If you’ve been around here for a while, you know I don’t usually do a whole lot on weekends because I believe weekends are for rest, relaxation and rejuvenation. I did, however, do a load of my laundry this morning…my exercise/workout clothes. A couple more days of them hanging around in the hamper would be unpleasant to say the least.
If you feel like you never have time to get things done during the week and that weekends are your only time to clean the house, do the laundry, etc., I hope that in a few weeks – after some of our weekly challenges – that you will be able to reclaim your weekends for yourselves! And, in the meantime, if there are things that need to be done, just tell yourself (and anyone who dares ask!) that you’re going to get there. And you will.
That being said, if you need to do laundry so that you don’t have to leave the house Monday morning in your pajamas, please do some laundry. Maybe it will be the last weekend you have to do laundry! Wouldn’t THAT be awesome?
Enjoy your day! If it’s cold where you are, stay inside and watch sappy Hallmark movies. That’s my plan for the afternoon. I have some things to do this morning that will require me stepping outside, but I hope to be done and sitting in my chair with a cup of coffee right after lunch.
Y’all have a great day! Relax if you can!
Happy Saturday, y’all!
I hope you’ve had a good week. I haven’t been blogging this week because, well, I just haven’t. Sometimes that just happens. However, I have been rejuvenated with a new Bible study that I started with some friends on Friday and a good girls’ night last night, so hopefully, I will be back on track on Monday. I already know what I’m going to blog about on Monday, so I’ve got a head start. 🙂
It’s a beautiful sunny day today after some much needed rain yesterday. I plan to spend some time doing some porch sitting, as well as some meal prep for the coming week. About to make some mini breakfast quiches to have on hand in the freezer.
What are your plans for the day?
Enjoy your day!
Hope you’ve had a wonderful Saturday!
Mine was productive (flower beds and raised garden beds cleaned out and all shrubs trimmed)…and now I’m all achy! Made smothered enchiladas and refried black beans for dinner. Sharing a pic and the link to the enchilada recipe.
Have a blessed night! I’m off to find my trusty heating pad. 🙂
