Just a few words on this Thursday evening…

Hi, everyone!

Hope you’ve all had a great Thursday!Β It was beautiful – if a bit cool – here today. Got the work thing done. Got the run in. Dinner’s done and kitchen cleaned. Coffee set for the morning. I think that I shall grab my book and read for a while.

But first I want to share a little Dave Ramsey FPU success I had. We have been doing FPU churchwide since January 26. This week was the first time I braved the grocery store with a list, a few coupons, and my cash envelope containing $100. I bought lots of fresh veggies (broccoli, 2 heads of cauliflower, potatoes, sweet potatoes, kale, spinach, and bananas), a nice roast, and lots of dairy products – cheese, cottage cheese, sour cream, half and half, milk. (Remember my Monday post of our menu for the week? My grocery list was based on that – a very specific grocery list.) Everyone got one thing they wanted for a snack.

It was SCARY standing there at the register waiting to see the end result. But (insert dramatic music), I got out of there with money left in my envelope. I spent $90.44. Whew! Now I just have to keep reminding myself that I do NOT need to go back to the store before the envelope is replenished next week.

I was just so excited that I made it out alive (I did text and ask Teresa to pray for me before I went in) that I just had to share!

So anyway, back to the book. Have a good night! Everyone stay well!

Thursday Thoughts

Happy Thursday!

Hope you all have had a good week. Just in case you aren’t from here and didn’t know: WE GOT SNOW!! That doesn’t happen very often, so we get pretty excited. (Most of us, anyway.) The big kids at my house certainly seemed to enjoy playing in the snow – and having “snow days” with no school.

So, February is just a few days away. We’ve been at the de-cluttering, de-stressing, and organizing for almost a month. Here are a couple of questions for you.

1. How are you doing with laundry? Is your laundry under control or is it still controlling you? Whatever schedule you have decided will work for you, I hope you are sticking with it. That’s really what matters. Everyone’s schedule can look different because what works for me might not work for you. The key is to stay AHEAD of the laundry, not BEHIND a big pile of it. (Karen E. – still waiting to see your pictures)

2. Did you take the living room challenge last week? I have rearranged my living room, but still have a few things to “tweak” then I’ll post some pictures. I did get the DVDs organized. I still have some books that need to go. Sadness…sadness. But I am tired of dusting around them, so I might be able to part with some more of them. So if you did take the challenge, don’t you want to share some pictures with us? “After” pictures are motivating for the rest of us.

3. Have you cleared out any closets? I am doing a good job keeping mine straight. I put all my clothes away today, including my Sunday t-shirt…exactly where it’s supposed to be so I wont’ be digging around in there Sunday morning. My pantry is next on my list. That pantry is the bane of my existence. I just can’t seem to get it the way I want it. But I’m going to try, try again.

One of the things I want you to be thinking about is your weekly schedule. Take a look at your calendar. We’re going to be talking about schedules next week. Oh, the busyness that we get caught up in. Think about that.

Y’all have a great night!

Happy Thursday!

Happy Thursday!

I hope everyone is having a good week! It is cold here once again…sigh.

Our internet issues seem to be resolved so I’ll be back on track with posting next week. This week has been an “off” one for me and I apologize for sporadic posting! πŸ™‚

Have you cleared out any closet clutter this week? I plan to work on mine tomorrow. I told my daughter Kayla that I was going to take a picture of her tossing all my clothes and post it to the blog. Between things I “shouldn’t” wear and things that are now too big (yay!), I may have to go shopping. This does not excite me. I really, really dislike shopping for clothes. (Except for exercise clothes…but that’s a new, weird thing for me.) So I’ll post a “before” picture of my stuffed closet and an “after” picture of the jacket or blouse that I’m allowed to keep. πŸ™‚

If you’ve cleared out a closet, I sure hope you’ll share some pictures with the rest of us!

Have a good night!

Thursday Thoughts

Good evening, all!

So, it looks like Thursdays will be the day for faith, family and relationships. To me, these are all very much intertwined in my life. Some of my most important relationships were forged through church-related activities. I love my HOME group (small group) at church! I love the ladies in my group especially and enjoy spending time with them. I enjoy my ladies’ Bible study with my immensely. My besties are church friends…and some of them go way (way!) back.

Friendships are very important! Neglecting your friendships and trying to get through life on your own just isn’t fun. In the craziness and busyness of everyday life, we can let friendships fall to the wayside, so we have to be intentional in maintaining them. A phone call, a text, an email, a card…any of these are great ways to let someone know you’re thinking about them. But better yet, find some time to spend together. A few of my friends and I have been doing a Bible study together for the last couple of months. Not only do we get to study the Bible together, but we get to just spend time together and that is like “icing on the cake.” Sometimes (like today) Bible study spills over to lunch – and I’m okay with that. Β (Thanks for lunch, April!) Β The ladies in my HOME group get together one night a month for a girls’ night out – no hubbies, no kids. When you are able to do these kinds of things, you have the opportunity to build real friendships, not surface-only acquaintances. And you NEED these friends. Because at some point, you’re going to have a problem that you can’t get through on your own. And while you have your hubby and family, sometimes you just need your girlfriends. (Or guy friends, if you happen to be a guy reading this.)

Here’s a little challenge for you.Think of a good friend that you haven’t been able to see for a while and get in touch. Set up a lunch (or any meal) date. Get together for a cup of coffee. Meet up and take a walk. Just make sure she knows you’re thinking about her and that you haven’t forgotten her. πŸ™‚ Β It will be good for both of you!

Have a good night! Stay warm and sleep well!

Happy Thursday!

Happy Thursday, everyone!

I hope you’re having a GREAT week! I started a new job this week working in the preschool ministry at my church. It’s part time and a lot of it is organizing – my favorite thing as you know! Plus I just love little kiddos! They’re just so darn cute!

How are you doing with your challenges this week? And the 30-minute declutter ideas? As this was my first week at work, I am remembering some of the challenges that I had back “in the day” when I worked full time. Much better now as I don’t have toddlers and am only working part-time. However, I already know that I will have to adjust my schedule to accommodate my work hours. My crock pot is going to get a good workout. I know that for sure.

Tomorrow is my big “cleaning” day as I have neglected my duties as I prepare for Sunday. A whole day to get everything nice and clean. I’m pretty excited. And, yes, I know that makes me weird. πŸ™‚ I’m okay with that. I want to leave for church Sunday morning with dinner in the crock pot and a clean house and prepared coffee maker awaiting me when I get back home. I think that ‘s a great goal, don’t you?

I tried a new soup recipe tonight. It was quite yummy! Yes we had soup in August. Since it was over 25 degrees cooler today than it was two days ago. Mother Nature is toying with us and teasing us with fall weather. I hope to share the recipe next Wednesday, but I have to get permission since it’s from another blogger.

My baby boy turns 22 this Sunday. When they say that time flies – whoever they might be – they do NOT lie. I will not cry. I will not. I. Will. Not. (She says as she tears up.) So Sunday is a big day around here.

Praying you have a great Friday!

Thursday – Check-up Day

Hey, everyone!

So how’s your week going? Did you take some time for yourself yesterday? I took a lovely, long nap. It was bliss! πŸ™‚ I think I’ll sleep well tonight on my fresh-from-the-clothesline sheets. I love that smell! So far today, it has been sunny. However, since my husband washed his car, I feel certain that it will rain at some point.Β I have done my dusting and sweeping. I need to run the mop through the downstairs, but I think I’ll save that until after dinner since I’ll inevitably spill something on the kitchen floor while fixing dinner if I mop now.

I went to the grocery store today and spent $200! Two. Hundred. Dollars. $203.31 to be exact. It’s always such a shock to the system. How the things in the cart came out to be that much money always amazes me. Of course, all of that was not all actually food. Still, I don’t like it. So I’m going to work on a menu plan for the rest of July and try to cook from my stash/stockpile as much as possible. I keep thinking I’ll do it but haven’t gotten around to it. I think now is the time, don’t you?

Are you working from a menu plan this week? If you are, how is it going for you – especially if you’ve not done it before? There is a longer post with an explanation of how to do that. You can find it on the blog. If you’re a Facebook follower, it will be harder to find so I’ll put the link in the “comments” section. Lots of fresh fruits and veggies right now. Take advantage of them and enjoy them in season when they’re so much tastier! We have been eating a lot of vegetables and less meat. I’ve been thinking that menu planning might need to be done over the weekend (Friday or Saturday) rather than on Monday. Then you can get your grocery shopping out of the way over the weekend. So if you haven’t already, make a menu plan before you grocery shop this week. Maybe you won’t spend as much as I did.

Keep plugging along as summer continues. Don’t let yourself get too far behind in your household chores that you start the school year being stressed and frustrated. Putting good habits into practice now can save you a lot of aggravation later. Start thinking about what you want your mornings, afternoons, and evenings to look like after school begins and start working toward that goal now. Get your kids into the habits you want them to have such as choosing clothes the night before, etc. so that they’ll already be used to it and it won’t be too much of a change. Another thing to start thinking about as August lurks around the corner is to stop sleeping in too often. If you do, the shock of the alarm clock on that first day of school will not be pleasant. Besides, if you get up early, you get to nap during the hot part of the day, right?

I hope you have a great evening! I’m going to have my afternoon coffee. Better late than never! πŸ™‚

Thursday Thoughts

Good afternoon!

I hope you are all having a good week. Tomorrow officially starts Summer 2013. Time flies though, and summer will have come and gone before you know it. (My son works at Staples and they are already getting in back to school stuff. Seriously. And school just let out a couple of weeks ago it seems.) I think that summer lasted longer when I was younger. We really did enjoy the lazy days of summer. Outside. In the heat. With the mosquitoes! Have mercy!

So how are you doing with your challenges? Today is dust/vacuum/mop day. I’m doing my best to ignore the dust but it’s still there. So I guess I’ll get to it shortly. Laundry is done and is hanging on the line. I didn’t get to clean bathrooms yesterday between appointments and babysitting, so I have those to do as well. So you know how much fun I’ll be having when I get off the computer in a few minutes.

Is there anything in particular that you are struggling with? That you are finding hard to keep up with? If so, let me know and I’ll try to address it for you. If I don’t have a clue, I’ll try to find someone who does. πŸ™‚

Hope you have a great afternoon! I’m going to enjoy a cup of coffee and a few minutes of reading before I tackle those pesky chores.
